Waive of 3-Day Hospitalization Requirements
A Federal Emergency Declaration was issued that will impact SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility) patient flow from hospitals and professional practice act standards. Specifically, a waiver of the 3-day hospitalization requirements for Part A stay in SNFs has been issued along with a waiver of 25-inpatient bed limit for CAH and waiver 96-hour average LOS (length of stay). The declaration also referenced a modification of telemedicine practice (that may or may not include therapy services).
Important to note: The industry anticipates that this Federal Emergency Declaration may mean a potential increase in SNF patients as hospitals discharge stable patients to make more open beds available. To learn more, click here.
