Pediatric Foot Management: Q&A
Posted on: August 17, 2021
Pediatric foot management is therapy to address any foot or ankle concerns that a family or medical practitioner may have for a child. It can encompass many different intervention options and can address a wide array of concerns that are centered around what matters most to the child, family, and medical team.
Our physical therapists are trained in evidence-based interventions to address foot management-related concerns. They are an excellent resource to families and medical teams and provide information on appropriate intervention strategies.
Julie Burkhardt PT, DPT with Milestone Pediatric Therapy Services, a HealthPRO Pediatrics Company, is sitting down to answer some of the most commonly asked questions when it comes to foot management in order to help guide families.

Occupational therapy (OT) in early intervention (EI) can help families with children (birth to three years) with developmental delays (or at risk for developmental delays) improve motor, social, sensory processing, play, and cognitive skills. Occupational therapists, specifically, are trained in activity analysis (the way in which we take apart activities and routines and simplify them down to their most basic skill) which allows us to pinpoint the specific skillsets needed of the child and individualize our treatment plans for each child and family. Educational Model vs. Medical Model in Pediatric Therapy
Posted on: July 13, 2020
Children can receive therapeutic support for developmental needs through a number of environments such as inpatient/outpatient clinics, the home, and public schools. The location of service for children with therapeutic needs depends on factors such as the child’s age, needs, and funding source. In some cases, a child may receive support from more than one option at the same time. The goal of care may vary depending on the setting.
Let’s discuss these services which are broken down into two primary models: (1) Educational Model (also known as School-Based Services Delivery) and (2) Medical Model. While both models offer beneficial support for children and their family, understanding the differences between the two models can help service providers offer the most effective services within their current environment.
