Amanda Anderson

Physical Therapist and Rehab Director

"I've helped patients of all ages get out of bed and walk safely again, no matter where they're starting from."

Amanda has seven years of experience in rehab.

A moment that reminded her why she does this work

Amanda worked with a patient on meeting a personal travel goal that mattered to him. They practiced mobility in a way that matched exactly what he'd need to do on his trip. "This patient was extremely thankful to be able to do this after receiving therapy. This made me feel very fulfilled and grateful to be able to help people achieve their goals. This story is still something that motivates me today."

A win from this year

Amanda worked with a patient where, at evaluation, it seemed very unlikely they would be able to return to their apartment and live on their own. Through a therapy team effort, the patient was able to return home and was thriving by discharge. Amanda remained an advocate for the patient within the multidisciplinary team throughout their skilled stay.

What people outside the field don't understand

"Most people think physical therapy is targeted toward young, injured athletes. However, it can also be about reestablishing independence and quality of life across all age groups. As a physical therapist in a skilled nursing and long-term care facility, I've treated patients across a wide range of ages, helping them simply get out of bed and walk safely again."

What Amanda would want for her own family

"I would want them to feel compassion, understanding, and get the best possible treatment from their therapist each session. As a rehab director and team leader, I always encourage my staff to treat their patients as they would want their own family members to be treated."
